Shoplifter banned from Carlisle city centre shops

A woman who police say has hundreds of previous shoplifting convictions has been given an antisocial behaviour order preventing her from entering a huge number of shops in Carlisle.

Theresa Cook, 36, of Greengarth, Upperby, Carlisle, was issued with the order at North Cumbria Magistrates Court.

It is in place for three years and prevents her from entering the city centre’s shops, all Co-op stores in the city, Aldi and Spar in London Road, Matalan in James Street and Spar in Petteril Bank Road, Harraby.

She received the order after a shoplifting incident at a Spar branch.

PC Lewis Powell said: “This shows we are committed to prosecuting shoplifters and taking appropriate steps to prevent re-offending.

“Shoplifting makes life difficult for businesses and will not be tolerated.”
