Roadworks delays on A66 in north Cumbria
Last updated at 12:06, Tuesday, 18 September 2012
Roadworks will take place on the A66 near Penrith next week.
Drivers are being warned in advance that temporary traffic lights and a 40mph speed limit will be in place as work on a five-mile section starts on Monday.
The Highways Agency scheme involves building a new retaining wall, replacing the safety barrier and improving drainage on the stretch of the road between Appleby-in-Westmorland and Warcop.
Work will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm and is due to be completed by mid-November. Some overnight work is also likely to be needed, which will be carried out between 8pm and 6am.
Peter Gee, of the Highways Agency, said it was an “important piece of work” that would help make the road safe for years to come. He said the work was being done outside peak hours to minimise disruption.
