The heat was really on in the kitchens of Richard Rose Central Academy with a cooking contest Masterchef-style.
Pupils were competing to take the top slot with their tasty treats as the Carlisle school staged its 2013 Masterchef final yesterday.
Six cooks went head-to-head with Liv Zagrodna, 12, impressing the judges the most with her Polish beef casserole with potatoes and blueberry crumble cakes.
Kenny Hogg, owner of Fantails restaurant in Wetheral, was head judge, helped by acting head Jacky Kennedy. Dishes were served on the dot of noon.
The others taking part included Lauren Blakey, a year nine pupil who cooked homemade shepherd’s pie and butter chocolate cake and Magda Wasiluk, year 10, who served pork tenderloin in chanterelle sauce with blue cheese and filo parcel with wild fruits.
