Man flees after gang breaks into his home, attacks him

A man fled his home after a gang forced their way into it and attacked him in the middle of the night.

Police are investigating after the assault, which happened in Workington.

A group of people launched the attack at an address in the town centre between 1.20am and 3.25am on Saturday.

A man inside, described as being in his early 20s, suffered facial injuries during the incident.

He managed to escape the property and contact police, who found him at Ramsey Brow.

The man was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven for treatment.

It is unclear what prompted the attack.

Police are investigating and are appealing for anyone with information to contact investigating officers on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
