Perfect wedding for stunning Helen Skelton

CUMBRIA’S TV golden girl sparkled in shimmering white for her wedding in her home village.

Helen Skelton was greeted by more than 100 well-wishers outside the church as she arrived to tie the knot with Super League rugby star Richie Myler.

Villagers braved cold winter temperatures to stand for more than an hour to see her as the former Blue Peter presenter arrived in Kirkby Thore, near Penrith, before walking down the aisle.

Helen, 30, had spoken in advance of the big day, saying she had been overwhelmed with good wishes.

St Michael’s Church proved the picture-perfect setting for the winter wedding yesterday, with snow-capped fells providing a scenic backdrop.

Residents ranging from young children to pensioners began to gather well before the ceremony at 12.30pm, some chatting excitedly about what her dress might look like.

Among the guests making their way through the crowds were Helen’s brother, Workington Reds footballer Gavin Skelton, and fellow former Blue Peter presenter, Andy Akinwolere.

Helen arrived in a Range Rover, wearing a white dress that sparkled in the bright winter light. She was guided along the church path by the bridesmaids, dressed in shimmering silvery gowns.

After a ceremony, which lasted about an hour, the happy couple returned to the waiting crowds, greeting children who had stayed back to see her before heading off in a waiting Range Rover.

Among those watching was Hazel Robson, of Kings Meaburn, near Penrith. She was a teaching assistant when Helen was at Kirkby Thore primary school.

“She looked absolutely beautiful, stunning,” she said. “The dress was just a real Helen dress. Sparkly like Helen – and classy.”

Another woman watching said: “She looks just gorgeous. There was a good turnout and it was a real village community atmosphere.”

Cumbrian professional climber Leo Houlding was among those who posted his congratulations on Twitter, saying: “Congrats Helen, you looked like a real movie star! To many happy years.”

Tanya Tinkler also wrote: “Was lucky enough to do some hair for family and guests of Helen Skelton! Lovely people! Hope the happy couple have a fab day!”

Helen herself had tweeted before the wedding: “Feeling very lucky to have such top family and friends.”

Helen, who now fronts BT Sport, has been with Warrington star Myler since 2011.
