OAP motorcyclist airlifted to Newcastle trauma centre after crash

A 71-year-old motorcyclist has been flown to a Newcastle hospital with severe injuries after a crash this morning.

The man, from Ravenglass, was in collision with a car on the main A595 road in west Cumbria.

The crash near Winscales closed the road between the A66 Bridgefoot roundabout and the A595 Lillyhall roundabout.

The motorbike rider suffered serious arm injuries and after being treated at the scene by paramedics and a doctor was airlifted by the Great North Air Ambulance Service to the major trauma centre at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

His condition on arrival was described as stable.

The crash happened just after 10am. The road reopened at around 12noon.
