Motorist airlifted to hospital after four-car Maryport crash

A woman has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after a collision in Maryport town centre.

A Great North Air Ambulance spokesman confirmed that a helicopter was called to the scene of the crash to treat the driver, who paramedics believe has a broken femur.

The collision involved a Renault Clio, an Audi, a Ford Focus and a Vauxhall Corsa, and happened at about 12.20pm.

Police asked drivers to avoid the area near Netherall traffic lights after after the collision.

The road was reopened by 2.45pm.
