Met Office gives Cumbria weekend weather warning

Cumbria and the rest of north west England has been put on alert for flooding this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for the area, saying more than 50mm of rain could fall over Saturday and Sunday with winds of 40-50mph.

This will be caused by an area of low pressure which will move north over the weekend.

A spokesman for the office said: “The public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding and of disruption to transport.”

However, he added that computer models of the situation do not agree on exactly what will happen and that this warning could be updated.
