Man who died in house fire in north Cumbria named

A man who died following a house fire in north Cumbria has been named.

He  has been identified as John Howard Bell, 66, from Tyne Close, Penrith.

Mr Bell, commonly known as Howard, died yesterday after a house fire and despite efforts by paramedics died at the scene.

His family has been informed and the case has been passed to the coroner.

Police and the fire service were called to Tyne Close Avenue in Penrith just after 9am on Thursday.

They were told that a man may still have been within the building.

Mr Bell was found in the living room and treated for his injuries but died at the scene.

There are thought to be no suspicious circumstances but police and the fire service are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Fire crews from Penrith, Shap and Carlisle were called to the scene.
