Man in court on £15,000 Cumbria theft plot charge

A man was appearing in court today charged with plotting to steal property worth £15,000 from a string of convenience shops in Carlisle.

John Carney, 41, is accused of conspiring to target Foreways stores in Warwick Road, Newlaithes Avenue in Morton and Blackwell Road in Currock and the Spar on Scotland Road.

Carney, of Sunderland, faces a charge of conspiring together with others to steal cash, cigarettes and CCTV equipment. He was to appear before Carlisle magistrates.
