Man beaten with metal bar during gang attack in north Cumbria

A man suffered serious injuries after he was battered with a metal bar during a gang attack.

The 25-year-old suffered cuts, bruises and swelling to his head, arms and body after he was set upon by five thugs in Wetheral on Tuesday night.

The attack happened next to the car park of the Crown Hotel at about 10.45pm.

Police believe the man had been targeted by the gang after an earlier dispute.

The victim was grabbed from behind by the men before two of them began punching, kicking and hitting him with a metal bar.

The victim began to fight back and the men then ran off

A 20-year-old Carlisle man has been arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail.

Anyone who has any information about the attack should call police on 101.
