Man arrested after dog attack in Carlisle

A woman's pet dog was left critically injured in an attack by another dog on a Carlisle street.

It is claimed a Staffordshire Bull Terrier attacked her Jack Russell on Bridge Street at about 12.15pm today. It sustained "life-threatening injuries" say police.

A 21-year old-man, from Workington, has been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place.

Pc Sarah Dodd said: “We take any reports of animal violence very seriously.

"This was a very distressing event for the woman who was taking her dog for a walk and the people who witnessed the incident. We will be investigating thoroughly to establish what has happened.”

Anyone with information about the incident should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
