You have a chance to put your questions direct to Carlisle's General Election candidates at a new hustings event.

Organised by the Border Reiver pub in Holmrook Road, Yewdale, and Heineken UK, in association with The Cumberland News/News & Star, the event will take place on Wednesday night at 6pm.

All four Carlisle candidates - Ruth Alcroft (Lab), Fiona Mills (Ukip), John Stevenson (Con) and Peter Thornton (Lib Dem) - have confirmed they will be taking part in the hustings.

We are now inviting readers to attend the event and put forward questions about the issues that matter to you.

The event, chaired by a member of The Cumberland News/News & Star team, will take on a Question Time-style format.

The Reiver’s licensees, Tony and Michelle Grierson, said it is a chance for candidates to set out their manifesto pledges to the wider community in a different venue to other organised hustings.

Mr Grierson said: “The Reiver is a community pub serving the needs of Carlisle’s residents.

"We open up our car park to political candidates for election canvassing and there’s been lots of discussion in the pub about the upcoming election.

"We thought it would be a great idea to take it to another level and open up The Reiver for a hustings so people can hear direct from the candidates and put their questions to them.

"We’re pleased to have the backing of The Cumberland News/News & Star and we hope it will be helpful for the community as they decide how to vote.”

Topics covered are likely to include Brexit, the NHS, education, jobs, welfare, flooding and infrastructure. But exactly what is asked on the night is down to you. To submit a question, email: generalelection@cnmedia.co.uk or call 01228 612661. The event runs from 6pm to 8pm and is open to all.
