A woman who says she was sexually abused as a child later underwent counselling, a jury has heard.

Geoffrey Blacklock, 68, is on trial at Carlisle Crown Court. He denies six indecent assault charges which relate to alleged incidents during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

These are said to have occurred in North Cumbria.

On day two of the trial today jurors heard evidence from the alleged victim. Now an adult, she spoke from behind a screen about abuse which, she said, occurred at the hands of Blacklock.

Speaking about the alleged offences, she recalled that nothing was ever said by Blacklock to her - nor by her to him.

It was only many years later, during 2015, that a complaint was made to police after she disclosed the matter to a third party.

Richard Haworth, prosecuting, asked her what made her first speak out about what she said Blacklock had done to her.

"Because it affected my life," she told the court. "I couldn't sleep. I was an angry woman and had been for a long time."

She confirmed she had also undergone counselling.

Jurors have heard that Blacklock, of Hawthorn Grove, Carlisle, denies that any sexual abuse or sexual misconduct ever took place.

The trial continues.
