Police are appealing to a witness of an assault to come forward to help them with their investigation.

A 21-year-old woman was attacked as she walked home from a night out along St Nicholas Street, Carlisle city centre, at about 3.45am on Sunday, October 9.

A man, who police believe is known to the victim, got out of a taxi and approached the woman. He then verbally abused her and pushed her to the ground. The victim suffered bruising as a result.

Police are appealing to a man in a red t-shirt who approached the woman after the assault to check if she was ok. They are also appealing to the taxi driver who may have seen the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Michael Gilsenan at Cumbria Police on 101.
