Cumbrians were left star-struck as Hollywood legend The Hoff stopped off in the county.

David Hasselhoff was seen exploring the area at the weekend as he headed to some of the top tourist destinations in the country.

Residents tweeted their surprised selfies as they spotted the screen idol wandering through the streets of Bowness.

Michelle Dale, of Fairfield Lane in Barrow, couldn't believe her eyes when she bumped into him in Bowness town centre.

She said: "We just went to Bowness yesterday. We had just left the Albert and went across the road to Tesco and there he was.

"We knew he was there because my friend had just taken a picture with him on Windermere Lake Cruises but when we came across him I just thought "Oh my God!

"I've never seen anyone famous there before but he seemed really friendly."

The Hoff seemed to enjoy a typical tourist's day out, seeing all the famous sights on the traveller's bucket list in the Lakes.

He even took staff at Windermere Lake Cruises by surprise when he decided to step on board.

Crew member Daniel Barlow was astounded when he realised who was on board.

He said: “I was amazed to see none other than ‘the Hoff’ stepping on board one of our boats. He was a very friendly guy, stopping to take some photos with the crew, and he’s obviously a big fan of the area!”
