COCKERMOUTH  Mountain Rescue came to the aid of a walker who suffered a suspected heart attack on the lakeshore path at Buttermere.

The 57-year-old woman was taken ill on the western side of the lake on Saturday morning, complaining of chest pains.

Fourteen members of the Cockermouth team attended, as did the Great North Air Ambulance.

The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics from the air ambulance, then carried on a stretcher to a waiting road ambulance at Gatesgarth Farm, which took her to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
