A song about former Carlisle United striker Joe Garner could top the charts this Christmas.

The Dave Clark Five song I’m Glad All Over has been adopted by Rangers fans in tribute to their new cult hero and former Blue Garner.

The lyrics have been changed in the song from “I’m Glad All Over to” “We’ve got… Joey Garner”.

Ibrox fans launched the campaign last weekend as punters united online using the Twitter hashtag #JoeyGarnerChristmasNumberOne.

As things stand, the 1963 single sits above the likes of Little Mix and Clean Bandit.

The song has also been backed by Crystal Palace fans, who have been singing the song for over 50 years.

The Dave Clark Five frontman saluted Rangers fans for sending the song and 1960s hit to the No.1 spot on iTunes.

And he revealed it’s the first time he’s topped the charts since the song first toppled The Beatles in 1964.

Mr Clark said: “Rangers fans have made me glad all over. It’s the perfect Christmas present.

“I never thought I’d reach the top of the charts again. I was stunned when I heard.

“I’m a big Tottenham Hotspur fan and love football, so it’s great to hear football fans have got behind me like this.”

Garner joined Carlisle United in 2007 for a club record fee of £140,000. Less than a year after joining he was sold to Notts Forest for a fee of £1.14m.

He scored his first league goal for United at Brunton Park on February 10, 2007, in a game against Yeovil Town, which Carlisle lost 4-1.

He has since become a cult hero with fans since his summer move from Preston.
