A search carried out by police after reports that a paraglider had got into difficulty has been called off.

Police officers, a police helicopter, drone and the Great North Air Ambulance Service were all involved in today's search in the Isel area, near to The Lakes Distillery at Bassenthwaite Lake,

Police received a report from a member of the public shortly after 9am today who said they had witnessed a paraglider having swiftly descended in the area near to The Lakes Distillery, possibly in distress.

However no missing person report which could relate to this incident has been received and no person or evidence of a paragliding accident has been found.

A police spokesman said: "Whilst the search has been cancelled, Cumbria Constabulary would still like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed anything or who has any information about this report. We would particularly like to hear from anyone who has been paragliding in west Cumbria today."
