Police were called to a Carlisle hotel following reports of a fight as crowds left a cage fighting event.

Officers were sent to the Milton Hilltop Hotel, off London Road, just before 9.45pm on Saturday, where an event organised by White Collar MMA (mixed martial arts) was taking place.

Eyewitnesses told the News & Star that people were seen fighting in the car park outside the hotel and that one person may have been knocked unconscious.

A spokeswoman for Cumbria police said that although no arrests had been made, police are continuing to investigate the incident and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

It is unknown how many people were involved in the fight, but officers believe that it broke out as crowds were leaving the venue.

The spokeswoman said: "Police were called to a reported incident at 9.42pm, on Saturday, May 20.

"The reported incident occurred at a venue on London Road, Carlisle. Upon arrival, officers were met with no complaints of criminal activity from anyone at the location, and no criminal activity occurring.

"A police presence remained in the area for a period of time after arrival as a matter of precaution. No arrests have been made, investigations are ongoing."

Ashley Fenton, manager at the hotel, said: "The only comment that we would make is that sort of behaviour is not what we expect from anyone, regardless of the event."

Anyone who witnessed what took place is asked to email 101@cumbria.police.uk, or call 101 quoting incident 250 of May 20.
