A 60-year-old man has been arrested following a racially-aggravated incident outside an Indian restaurant.

The incident is alleged to have taken place at the Shaha restaurant, off Botchergate, Carlisle, on Sunday at around 8.20pm.

Police investigating the incident, in which verbal abuse was used, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward to help their investigation.

The man was arrested on suspicion of a racially-aggravated public order offence.

He has been released from custody but remains under investigation.

A police spokesman said: "Officers would like to hear from anyone with information about the incident who was in the vicinity of the restaurant and Tait Street."
