A 20-year-old man has been arrested after an alleged hate crime incident in Cockermouth.
James Conway, of Mawsons Court, Cockermouth, has been charged with racially or religiously aggravated intentional harassment and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
He was released on bail to attend Magistrates’ Court in Carlisle on Friday, April 7.
The alleged hate crime incident happened on Saturday night at about 9.30pm in the area of Main Street/Mawson's Court in Cockermouth.
A woman reported that she was the victim of racial abuse. A police spokesman said all reports of hate crimes will be treated seriously and investigated thoroughly.
