Wasdale Mountain Rescue team has had a £218,146 donation from the Copeland Community Fund confirmed.
Team chairman John Bamforth said: “This is the last piece of the jigsaw. It’s fantastic news.”
The new £555,096 base will be built on land just off the A595 near Gosforth. Funding has been provided by Copeland Community Fund, £324,950 from the team’s own funds and £12,000 from the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association.
Mr Bamforth thanked all those who have supported the project and said: “We are very proud of what we do and this funding injection will enable us to invest in the provision of our service for many years to come.”
The new facility will be a modern, fit-for-purpose building with enhanced training and welfare facilities, communications and accessibility to the A595.
The land is owned by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and will be leased at a peppercorn rent.
