A motorist who was stopped by police in Carlisle was carrying £39,000 worth of the class B drug cannabis.
At the city's magistrates' court today, Mark Anthony Bailey, 31, from Partington, Manchester, admitted possessing the drug with intent to supply.
Police found 3.9kg of the drug in a black binliner in his car when they stopped Bailey on Friday, May 13.
Magistrates ruled that their powers to sentence were not sufficient and committed the case to Carlisle Crown Court for a sentencing hearing on August 12.
The defendant was granted bail until that date.
