A MAN caught with almost £5,000 criminal cash in Workington has been jailed for two years.
Carlisle Crown Court heard police stopped a vehicle in the dead of night during July last year as it travelled the wrong way along a town centre street.
One of the two male occupants was 41-year-old Andrew Phillip Webb. He admitted that £4,745 cash - found in a coat pocket within the vehicle - belonged to him.
Webb pleaded guilty to one charge of possessing criminal property, and was sentenced today by Judge Peter Davies.
After hearing the facts of the case, Judge Davies concluded that the money was connected with drug dealing.
The judge sent Webb, of Greenside Close, Liverpool, immediately to prison and ordered the money to be confiscated.
Webb was told: "These are serious offences - they merit serious punishment."
