A teenager arrested on suspicion of robbery following an incident at a Carlisle takeaway which left staff and customers shaken has been released under investigation.

Officers investigating the attempted robbery at Chutneys Indian takeaway in Wigton Road arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the incident.

He has now been released while investigations continue.

It follows an attempted armed robbery at the takeaway in front of a family with young children at about 3.55pm on Sunday.

A woman and three children under the age of 10 were also present at the time of the raid.

Police said the 44-year-old shop assistant and customers were unhurt but had been left shaken by the incident.
