A major route through Cumbria is set to be resurfaced.

The dual carriageway section of the eastbound A66 between Dubwath and Beck Wythop junctions is being resurfaced.

It is scheduled to take place until early September, with a break over the August bank holiday weekend when Highways England traditionally removes road works to give drivers smoother holiday journeys.

The resurfacing work is set to begin on Monday and is costing Highways England a total of £596,000.

Highways England project manager Peter Gee said: “These are essential wear and tear repairs to ensure everyone using the A66 in this part of Cumbria can continue to enjoy safe and smooth journeys.”

The majority of the works will be done between 8pm and 6am overnight using full carriageway closures. There will be signed diversions for through traffic .

However, HGV drivers – many heading to the M6 at Penrith - will need to build in some extra time to take what is quite a long diversion route.
