FUNNYMAN Johnny Vegas is to star in a new sitcom set in the Lake District.

The Benidorm actor will lead the cast in Home From Home, a pilot of which is expected to screen this summer.

It will be shown on BBC Two and also feature Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page, along with Silent Witness actress Emilia Fox.

The sitcom is part of a new of a new season to mark 60 years since Galton and Simpson’s Hancock’s Half Hour started on BBC Television.

It also includes one-off remakes of three classic sitcoms - Till Death Us Do Part, Hancock's Half Hour and Steptoe And Son, based on original scripts.

Filming of Home From Home is another boost to Cumbria's growing reputation as a superb backdrop for films and television programmes.

A BBC spokesman said: "Home From Home is about a family man, played by Johnny Vegas, who has long cherished the dream of buying a lodge in the Lake District.

"When he finally achieves his ambition, the years of scrimping and saving all feel worth it, but that’s until he meets the neighbours. Just be careful what you wish for."

No details of where or when filming has or will take place have so far been revealed.
