Hundreds of cyclists have been pedalling around the streets of west Cumbria this morning, taking part in the Jennings Rivers Ride.

Now in its fifth year, the event was created following the 2009 floods with the previous routes followed the river courses that were affected. Money raised was donated to the Cumbria Community Foundation.

But after Jennings Brewery in Cockermouth - which supports the event - was hit by flooding in 2015, organisers wanted to create a new challenge this year and moved the event to the town itself.

Around 300 riders set out on a range of different routes, including the Family Ride Trail Quest and the 27.5-mile (44km) Community Challenge Ride.

Meanwhile others set off on the Foundation Fandango, a route of 52.5 miles (84km) and the New Big Day Out - which spans 83.75 miles (134km).

All money raised will again be donated to the Cumbria Community Foundation.

Cheryl Frost, of Rather Be Cycling, which organises the event, told the News & Star that the atmosphere in and around Cockermouth has been fantastic. "The sun's out, so that always helps," she said.

"The family ride seems to have been really popular. Riders have two hours to try and find 10 points on a treasure map. The riders on the longer routes also seem to have enjoyed themselves.

"There's a great spirit and everyone is raising money for a great cause."
