Firefighters were called to tackle two separate chimney fires overnight.
The first call came in at about 6.05pm yesterday, to reports of a fire in the chimney of a property in Penrith.
It was out by the time fire crews arrived, but they used a thermal imaging camera to check the building for any remaining hot spots.
At about 12.50am today, crews in the west of the county were called to a similar incident in Gosforth.
The fire was confined to the bottom of the chimney, so firefighters needed to open up the floorboards to access it.
They used chimney rods to extinguish the fire.
People are reminded to sweep their chimneys ahead of the colder winter season.
