Firefighters from two city stations were called to a fire at a flat above a takeaway last night.
Carlisle West was called to the property, above Mario's Kebabs and Pizza on Botchergate at around 10pm and was assisted by a crew from Carlisle East. Nobody was in the flat at the time.
A spokesman for Carlisle West station said: "The fire was started by a washer/dryer. There was no-one in the flat at the time and two hose reel jets were used to put it out while four firefighters wore breathing apparatus."
