Controversial proposals for four new homes in Workington are going back before planners.

A fresh bid to build the single-storey houses off Ellerbeck Lane is being recommended for approval despite scores of objections.

An earlier bid to build on the land had been thrown out by a planning inspector.

Members of the council's development panel will discuss the latest application when they meet next week at Allerdale House.

The site is partly within the boundaries of the applicant's existing house on Ellerbeck Lane and is also used for grazing horses.

Workington town council are among those objecting, insisting that the issues of "over development and loss of residential amenity in the area have not been addressed sufficiently".

There have also been concerns about the sewerage system and parking.

Despite changes to the plans to address concerns, the town council still says the bid should be refused.

Concerns raised by others include claims that some residents on Ashfield Road had not been originally consulted and there are fears that the new homes will overlook and overshadow others.

Despite this, Allerdale Council's planning officers conclude in their report to members that the proposals are a "sustainable form of development" which would have "limited" impacts on the local landscape, highways and infrastructure.

Officers are also satisfied that "acceptable levels of privacy and amenity" would be achieved for both existing and proposed homes in the area.

Next Tuesday's meeting (JULY 26) will start at 1pm.
