JLS to play Carlisle's Bitts Park

Top boyband JLS will play an open-air concert on a star-studded bill in Bitts Park, Carlisle, this summer.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning for the 20,000-capacity crowd-puller in August, which is one of six UK tour dates to be announced.

It comes on the back of the success of Radio 1’s Big Weekend last year and the announcement of Carlisle Music City festival this June as the appetite for live music in Cumbria hits a high.

The tour spokesman Dion Clements said: “JLS are, without doubt, one of the biggest bands in music today, so adding these six large-scale summer concerts to their schedules, particularly at venues which enable fans to see them close to home, is just fantastic news – everyone involved is totally hyped.

“We’ll also be announcing some really special guest performers in the coming weeks which will make these concerts even bigger.”

Carlisle City Council leader Mike Mitchelson added: “I am delighted that Carlisle City Council and Discover Carlisle are able to make this announcement and bring such a fantastic concert to Bitts Park this summer, which is a wonderful setting for outdoor events.

“Following on from the success of Radio 1’s Big Weekend we are delighted that Carlisle will be hosting a live performance from JLS as it provides our residents and visitors the opportunity to see live music of this calibre. This event will further promote Carlisle as a great venue for live music events, especially as we’re the only venue they will perform in the north west on their summer tour.”

JLS shot to fame on X Factor and rocketed to more success with the recent launch of their third album Jukebox.

Fresh off the back of their hugely successful Sport Relief 2012 single, band members Proud, Aston, Marvin, Oritsé and JB have worked with an international production team responsible for the likes of Rihanna and Black Eyed Peas.

But Marvin added: “We’re still a young band with a lot to prove,” said Marvin. “We had to prove ourselves every week on X Factor, then we had to prove we were proper recording artists with our first album. Now we want to prove that wasn’t just a fluke, we’re here to stay.”

The concert, staged in association with CFM, will take place at Bitts Park on Saturday, August 25. Tickets go on sale at 8am tomorrow. Visit www.gigantic.com or call 0844 888 9991.

Have your say

JLS.... not my cup of punk rock, but hey hoy.

Don't they announce headline acts each year and often they change last minute or just fail to turn up ? Or is that just my perception ?

Nice if they do turn up, about time the young people of the city (and surrounding areas) get some more current pop stars etc.
