Four more weeks of road disruption at Kells

Road disruption at Kells is set to continue for residents, as four more weeks of work are planned.

Work on replacing ageing iron gas mains pipes at Rosemary Lane is due to begin in September, but there will be road access with a traffic light system in place as well as ongoing work through the night.

A spokesperson for Northern Gas Networks said: “The essential work commenced in Hill Top Road on Monday, August 11.

“In order to carry out this section of the work safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to close Hill Top Road to traffic for three weeks while work is taking place. Road access will be maintained for residents and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

“Work will then move into Harbour View and will be carried out under two-way temporary traffic lights for approximately three weeks.

“The final phase will be carried out at the bottom of Rosemary Lane under a night-time road closure (11pm to 7am) for approximately one week.”

The project is part of Northern Gas Networks’ ongoing development of the gas infrastructure across Cumbria.

John Brannon, spokesman for the Prospect Area Residents Group, said:“At first we thought it was unbelievable as we thought the roads were going to be closed longer than they already have.

“We, as residents, are mostly disappointed with the lack of liaison.

“We know the work needs to be done and we are pleased Northern Gas Networks have taken steps to ensure the road remains accessible.”
