Former Carlisle pub landlady dies aged 46

The former landlady of Carlisle’s Globe Inn has died from cancer aged 46.
Kerry Dixon ran the pub in Caldewgate with her partner Steven Dixon from 2003 until 2010.
The couple shared the same surname but were not married.
He was by her side when she passed away at the Eden Valley Hospice last Thursday.
He said: “She was a bright, bubbly person always with a smile on her face. Her wit was unbelievable.
“She tried to give everybody a laugh. We will miss her.”
Before taking over at the Globe, Kerry had worked as a barmaid at several Carlisle pubs including the Howard Arms, Chaplin’s and the Royal Scot at Morton.
She was badly injured by a customer in a vicious attack at the Globe in 2003, which left her with a broken arm and needing 12 stitches to a head wound.
She put the trauma behind her and carried on.
In the 2005 flood, Steven rescued people from Willowholme in a boat while Kerry turned the Globe into a sanctuary for flood victims, making hot drinks until the rising waters forced them out.
The couple had been together for 13 years and lived in Bracken Close, Belah.
She was diagnosed with stomach cancer three years ago and died four days after her 46th birthday. She is survived by both parents.
Her father, Johnny McCallum, who lives in London, is a famous Irish guitar and banjo player who performed with the Chris Barber Jazz and Blues Band from the 1970s to the 1990s.
She leaves three children from an earlier marriage – Liam, 23, Hannah, 17, and Blair, 16 – and three grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Johnny, and two sisters, Victoria and Virginia.
Her funeral was due to held at Carlisle Crematorium at 3.40pm today.
The family have asked that only family members send flowers and that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Eden Valley Hospice.

I am deeply upset about Kerry passing away and my thoughts go out to a good friend of mine Steven and her children. I lived in Carlisle between 2002 and 2005 and Kerry and Steven made me feel most welcome and made me feel like a part of the family. Kerry was a deeply caring person and a very passionate friend and devoted her time to being there for people, especially in the Globe. RIP Kerry. Another bright light taken too soon xxxxx
