Cyclist hurt in crash with car in Carlisle

A cyclist was hurt in a crash on the outskirts of Carlisle yesterday evening (Wednesday).

The 47-year-old man, from the city, was in collision with a grey Ford Focus car at the Peter Lane-Dalston Road junction at about 5.10pm.

He was taken by ambulance to the Cumberland Infirmary with what police said were serious injuries. It was, however, later said he had sustaned only minor injuries.

The Focus driver, a 24-year-old woman from Carlisle, was not hurt.

Both roads were closed for around three hours while collision investigators examined the scene.

Anyone who saw the crash should call the force's northern roads policing unit on 101.
