Cumbrian waste firms boss charged with illegal dumping
Published at 08:51, Friday, 30 November 2012
The boss of two waste management companies has appeared before a crown court judge charged with illegally dumping waste.
Richard James Allan, 42, of Lanercost Road, Brampton, who runs Brampton Skip Hire Ltd and North West Recycling Ltd on Kingmoor Park in Carlisle, faces 20 charges – brought by the Environment Agency.
They include depositing waste without a permit and knowingly permitting the operation of a regulated facility without authority. A total of 32 related charges have also been levelled against the two businesses of which he is the director.
Allan was not asked to enter pleas to any of the charges.
The court was told the issue was not whether the material was deposited – which Allan admits – but whether having been “recycled” it should still have been classified as controlled waste.
The case was adjourned for a plea and case management hearing on Thursday, January 24.
