A walker had to be rescued by boat after injuring himself on scree in Wasdale.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team helped a walker who became stuck

He was part of a group crossing the boulder field on the Wastwater Screes on Saturday when he became stuck.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were called and helped free the man, who had an injured ankle. He was given basic first aid while a boat was launched to bring him back to shore.

Paul Cook, who led the team, said: “The area is a mess of boulders.

“Basically he had been walking along and slipped, or a rock had moved and trapped his foot. It’s the first call-out I’ve had with someone actually trapped, but we do have to help people down from the screes.”

Mr Cook said the young man was taken to the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven to be treated for ankle injuries.

Meanwhile, an air ambulance was scrambled after a man suffered serious head injuries in a mountain biking accident.

The 30-year-old cyclist suffered serious head injuries after he fell off his bike in Grizedale Forest.

He was treated at the scene before being flown to the Royal Preston Hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance’s Pride of Cumbria helicopter.
