Cumbrian policeman on rape charge

A police officer has appeared before a court charged with offences of rape and indecent assault.

Nicholas Doherty, 41, from Walney, Barrow-in-Furness, who was suspended by Cumbria Police last November, appeared at Warwick Crown Court yesterday.

He was bailed until a plea and case management hearing in August.
