Cumbrian man accused of helping friend escape

A teenager has appeared in court accused of helping a friend get away while police were looking for him.

Peter Jamal Kent, 19, of Solway Avenue, Flimby, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court on Monday charged with assisting an offender.

He drove 20-year-old Stephen McDowell away, knowing he was wanted for questioning about an alleged assault on his partner. Kent pleaded guilty and was remanded for background reports.

He will be sentenced on August 7 alongside McDowell, of Eskdale Cresent, Workington, who has admitted causing actual bodily harm and breaching a restraining order banning him from having any contact with his ex-partner.
