Cumbria's firefighters to strike again tonight

Members of the Fire Brigades' Union will walk out tonight between 6pm and midnight in their ongoing row with the government over pay and pensions.

The strike has brought a warning from fire chiefs who are urging  people to take extra care during festive celebrations tonight.

Further stoppages are planned on New Year’s Eve and January 3.

The union has already called six strikes since September in protest at changes to pensions and retirement age, which it warned threatened firefighters in their late 50s with being sacked.
