Just wait until the financial system crashes, banks shut, ATMs not working, food flies off the shelves & doesnt get restocked. Its what some of us call `when it all hits the fan` (polite version)

Police Officers jobs are being replaced with security people. I am sure there is good reasons for that (a) financially cheaper and (b) when it all hits the fan, and the people take to the streets because they`re hungry, then the security staff wont be quite as loyal towards the people as what our boys in blue are.

Wake up police, fight for your jobs while you`ve still got the chance.
Can you not see what the govt are after doing: they want to PRIVATIZE THE POLICE (and also the NHS SERVICE)

To those who are saying: cut their numbers /close contact points, just remember it might be YOUR job next.

1 x chief, 1 x deputy, 2 x assistant chief constables, 3 chief superintendents, 4 x superintendents, 8 x chief inspectors, 9 detective chief superintendents, if you are talking about saving money why not get rid of half of these ranks are they all needed. Why must the junior ranks and civilian staff suffer all the time when cut backs and savings are mentioned.

The police must make savings, but let's start with the true waste, like all day meetings off site in expensive venues, then the expensive toys like Subaru Impretzza cars, high performance unmarked cars and many useless monitoring forms. Let the dedicated members of Cumbria Police, Police.

I have to agree with Neil ... there are some posters on here who would struggle to fill the back of the proverbial postage stamp with what they know about policing.

The people who criticize the police are not thinking straight, I think Anon got about wright when he said LOCK YOUR DOORS AT NIGHT I would add and Buy a Gun or at least Arm yourselves because its going to look like the wild west of the UK, its bad enough now but wait a bit when the big cuts come and the lawless among us are hungary and need cash or drink they won't care who they take it from, of course, the Torrie Toffs will have Police guarding their Homes.

@ Neil. Police Officers wont be double crewed all the time just if 2 officers ar needed for a job which could result in dealing with a violent person . Lazy -no. Non visible- dur they where hi vis jackets and drive hi vis cars. Chief chasing police out of the stations , think you will find that wasnt Cumbria.

After watching the TV broadcast yesterday Re the Police conference, I was dismayed to learn that our police service is being decimated by this Home secretary, she really needs to be put in a situation where she needs help by our very brave police men and women, maybe if she was in a life or death situation herself would be enough to make her see common sense, (but as was said at the time) she is living in a different world to us, the world of Posh Tories is far away from the violent thugs on the street at night, rapes and fire raisers,drunk drivers, etc etc She is a not liked in anything she has done up to now, so I can say, What do you think of the show so far folks ?

Graham. You have your head in the sand. They want to park the fancy cars up and get out and actually police for once. Lazy, inefficient, non visible, can't be bothered are all words that spring to mind with policing these days. And why do they have to be in pairsnail the time In big bad workington. It's hardly the Bronx. I read recently a new police chief who started chasing coppers out of the station on to the beat unless they had a very good reason to be at the station. I understand their was a immediate marked reduction in crime where that happened. Proof that they're idly lazing about waiting for the end of the shift.

Victor how does closing a front desk effect response times? Its a nonsensical statement - front desks and Police response times are not linked.

I find alot of people on this forum say sweeping statements for the sake of it.

You never see a bobby on the beat now. They won't get out of their fancy warm cars. Will we honestly see a difference in this reduction. I doubt it.
