Counter-terror police in Cumbria munitions theft probe

Counter-terrorism police are leading the search for ammunition stolen from a train that left a Cumbrian military depot.
The munitions were on a frieght train loaded at the Ministry of Defence's Longtown base.
But 10 packages were discovered missing when the train reached its destination, at Didcot in Oxfordshire.
Police believe the munitions were taken off the train while it was temporarily stationary in Warrington, Cheshire. Seven of the packages were discarded nearby.
An investigation to find the remaining items is being led by the North West Counter Terrorism Unit, backed up by the Ministry of Defence.
The theft was reported just after 7.30am on Thursday. The train had left Longtown at 11.30am on Wednesday.
Police say there is no suggestion that the the theft is linked to terrorism.
