The Rock Youth Project, based on Lediard Avenue in Currock, has been operating since 2007 and currently has more than 270 members, aged seven to 19 years.

The charity helps young people to develop life skills, through a combination of sporting, creative and educational activities, as well as organising social evening events one night a week.

After years without a new lick of paint, the club’s youth room was in desperate need of an injection of colour and modernisation. Using a selection of turquoise, yellow and blue paints, 30 volunteers and members transformed the area from a drab, grey space into a cheerful and eye-catching area.

The makeover was part of the Let’s Colour mission to add colour to people’s lives, after Rachel Crowcroft, project manager at the charity, decided to nominate the club online.

The paint was provided by Dulux Decorator Centres in Chapel Place, Carlisle.

Rachel said everyone was delighted with the transformation. “It was a real group effort creating this eye catching space,” she said.

“All the children selected the colours and we worked as a team to get the project completed.

“We are really grateful to the Let’s Colour Project and Dulux Decorator Centres for the paint donation and guidance.”

Yvonne Ingledow, store manager of Dulux Decorator Centres in Carlisle, said helping the project was “an absolute pleasure.”

“It impacts onso many young lives in the local community,” she said.
