Carlisle woman stole money left in cashpoint by distracted mum

A woman removed £300 from a cashpoint belonging to someone else, a court heard.
Marina Foster, 38, from Welsh Road, Harraby, Carlisle, admitted stealing the cash when she appeared before city magistrates.
The court heard a customer put her card in the cash machine at the Cumberland Building Society on English Street in Carlisle but got distracted by her children and walked away.
Pam Ward, prosecuting, told the court that Foster went to the machine and found the card had been left in together with £300 in notes which she took.
The court was told that the building society would not refund the money to the customer, as she had left her bank card in the machine.
Geoff Clapp, defending, told the court that “temptation got the better of his client”. She spent the money on food not luxuries. Magistrates ordered Foster to pay £300 in compensation, a fine of £75 with a victim’s surcharge of £15.
