WE shared the news that a local businessman has saved an iconic sporting goods shop from closure following the previous owners' retirement plans.
Paul Wasilkowski, who is a co-owner of Carlisle's Boyd Hair & Beauty, took over Chivers Sports Carlisle on April 5 - the exact place where he bought his first football boots.
The family business, dating back to 1945 on Abbey Street, had announced their 'heavy-hearted' decision to retire in January last year.
Despite some interest, no concrete offers had been made until Paul got into a conversation with the former co-owner Stuart Goodman.
Here's what readers said.
James Glass said: "Good luck Paul, I bought my Puma SPA King boots in this shop. I'd always wanted a pair and found them here in my first week at Carlisle Utd. I only got to wear them three times though. Great to know that it's still going, not enough quality sports shops left."
Jimmy Montgomery said: "Bought trainers for running from Chivers Sports 30 odd years ago, got advice what to buy, they were absolutely brilliant, hopefully the shop will still be there for a long time yet."
Johnathon Dent said it is a 'great shop', and Shelly Johnston added: "Long may it continue - best of luck."
One web user said: "Good luck Paul, here's hoping all goes well and thank you for saving Chivers Sports from closure," as another said: "Well done Paul. Local runners will be most appreciative."
Another web user commented: "Enjoy your retirement Stuart. All the best for the new owners."
