WE shared the news that a family butcher's shop in Carlisle has revealed it will be shutting up shop due to 'unforeseen circumstances'.

Oglivie's Butchers & Baguette Bar, on Newlaithes Avenue, will be hanging up their hats around the end of this month.

The business, which has been in the Oglivie family since the 1980s, is the last remaining butcher shop in Carlisle's Morton area.

Here's what our readers said.

Martin Mackay said: "Their tomato sausage is the best I’ve ever tasted and I have stocked up on it but don’t know what I’ll do afterwards. The saying “use it or lose it” is very apt and unfortunately in this case a lot of people will wish they had used it more frequently."

Simon Gypsy Bathie said: "They were a great butchers, I got meat parcels and steak packs off them often, shame they're going loved their scotch pies as well."

Pauline Kelly added: "It’s a shame. It’s a good butcher. Nice lads that work there too," and Andy Bell commented: "Another part of Morton's history going. But I wish all the family all the very best for the future. And well done for the long service to all from Morton and further afield."

Ian Percival said he 'used to love their mince pies'.

One web user said: "I remember when it was opened by Mike and Jenny, they took over from Ralph and Nora Pennington. Breath of fresh air, quality Cumberland sausage, plenty of meat and poultry to choose from. It’ll be a big miss in Morton, but all the best to the lads in whichever career path they take now."
