Burglar raids home while 'frail and elderly' woman asleep upstairs

A burglar forced his way into the home of an elderly woman while she slept upstairs.

Police were called to the property in Norbeck Park, Cleator Moor, yesterday after the break-in which took place overnight on Sunday.

The thief forced open the porch door before then breaking through a locked internal door.

They escaped with just £8 in pound coins, stolen from the living room of the property.

A spokeswoman for Cumbria police said: “The occupant, a frail and elderly woman, was asleep upstairs during the break-in but was unharmed.”

Officers investigating are appealing for residents in the area to remain vigilant and also appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious overnight on Sunday to call PC Hannah Robinson on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
