Bike track tribute to Cumbrian boy killed in coach crash

A group of friends will walk 20 miles in memory of Keswick School coach crash victim Kieran Goulding.

Kieran and his schoolmate Chloe Walker tragically died in May 2010 when the bus they were travelling in collided head-on with a car.

Friends and family of Kieran, from Whitehaven, are now rallying round to raise cash to build “Kie Park” – a multi-purpose facility for BMXs, scooters and skate-boarders earmarked for Hensingham.

Kieran’s mum Tracey Nicholson started a mammoth cycling challenge 18 days ago to complete 900 virtual miles in a mix of outdoor cycling and on static bikes at home and in the gym – the distance between Land’s End and John O’Groats.

She hopes to complete the challenge on Wednesday, which is the day that her son would have celebrated his 18th birthday.

And to further the fundraising campaign, a group of Kieran’s friends will complete a 20-mile sponsored walk next month from Hensingham to Rowrah.

It takes place on Saturday, October 6 and the walkers will wear T-shirts bearing a logo designed by Kieran’s brother Adam. The walk has been organised by friends Toni Morton and Catherine Lowrey.

Tracey’s challenge will average 33 miles a day. She has reached the 600-mile mark and is asking for people to throw their weight behind her and donate to the Kie Park fund.

To donate send a cheque (made payable to Kie Park) to Tracey at 19 Ruskin Drive, Whitehaven, or take it to The Whitehaven News office, Edgars (Rowrah), Hillside (Distington) or Plaza Cinema (Workington).
