Banking corruption petition given to Carlisle MP

Members of the Carlisle Socialist Party handed over a petition to city MP John Stevenson calling on the Government to hold a public inquiry into banking corruption.

Brent Kennedy, Daniel Thorburn and Gill Thorburn posed with ‘jail the robbing bankers’ placards outside Mr Stevenson’s office in Currie Street in Carlisle yesterday.

They collected 260 signatures in two hours in a protest outside Barclays Bank in English Street on July 7.

Mr Kennedy, organiser, said: “We want to know why Lord Green, who led HSBC while it was laundering South American drug money, is allowed to be a member of the Government.”
